Benvenuti (ben-VEH-nu-tee, welcome)! I’m thrilled to welcome you to my new Substack, Italian with Antonio. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, you're in the right place for learning Italian, beyond just the words.

A bit about me: my name is Antonio, and I’m a native Italian speaker, born and raised in Italy, who’s been living in Canada for many years. I bring a unique perspective: not only do I deeply understand my own culture, but I’ve also mastered English to a C2 level, becoming fluent enough to write technical books and lead teams as an Engineering Manager.

I know firsthand what it takes to learn a language to proficiency, and I want to share that journey with you.

My teaching style is different. I know what truly accelerates learning: exposure to real Italian—vocabulary that matters, everyday idioms, and culturally authentic content. Too often, language programs like Duolingo get bogged down in repetitive exercises focused on quirky sentences like "The sugar is in the water" (lo zucchero è nell’acqua).

My focus is on practical language skills: how to speak naturally, connect with native speakers, and understand the culture, so you won’t feel like a fish out of water when you visit or even move to Italy.
